What You Need To Know About Natural Disaster Preparation
A crash course in natural disaster preparation.
Regardless of what you do once a natural disaster strikes, natural disaster preparation is usually the key to survival should a natural disaster come calling. If you don’t know what natural disaster preparation entails, worry not. I’m Ryan Edgerton and I’m going to go over some natural disaster preparation basics with you.
Natural Disaster Supplies
First things first. One of the most important parts of natural disaster preparation is putting together your natural disaster survival supplies. These include items like a first aid kit, food, water, etc. I’m going to go into detail over some of the most important items you’ll need for your natural disaster preparation.
Water
Water is an integral part of natural disaster preparation. Without it, you wouldn’t be able to survive. Store water (enough for at least three days for each member of your family) in non-breakable airtight containers. This will ensure that you’ll have the water you need in order to survive.
Food
Aside from water, the second most important thing to your survival is food. That’s why every good natural disaster preparation plan includes storing enough food for at least three days, if not a couple of months. Make sure that you buy non-perishable items and rotate your stock frequently.
First Aid
You definitely want a first aid kit on hand. Make sure your first aid kit is a heavy duty one that includes items like heat packs, ice packs, surgical needles, smelling salts, and strong thread. Also make sure you put at least three to four days worth of your prescription medications in your first aid kit. These items may come in handy during a natural disaster and they’re an important part of your natural disaster preparation.
Portable Radio and Flashlight w/ Extra Batteries
When putting together a natural disaster preparation kit, you definitely want to have an emergency radio and a flashlight with extra batteries for both. These two items are absolute essentials when it comes to surviving a natural disaster.
Extra Clothing
Clothing for three days is also an important part of natural disaster preparation. Make sure that you also have shoes that are sturdy, yet comfortable for walking as you don’t know what type of conditions you’ll have to trudge through when disaster strikes.
By putting together the above items, you’ll be well on your way to natural disaster preparation and will be able to face the next natural disaster a little bit more readily.
