The Makings of Great Emergency First Aid Kits

What you absolutely must have in your emergency first aid kits.

When assembling an emergency first aid kit we are often presented with many well-intentioned and well-advertised items. Picking the right choices from these items can sometimes be tricky to say the least. I’m Ryan Edgerton and I’m here with a few tips that can help you to fill your emergency first aid kits with only the items that you must have.

Antiseptics and Antibiotics

Including these two items are a must for all emergency first aid kits. With these items you will be able to keep open wounds and cuts from getting infected and causing further complications. The best recommendation for fulfilling this requirement is to get some antiseptic wipes and most preferably a triple antibiotic ointment.

Bandages

Having a small variety of bandages is always a good idea. Be sure to include couple of different sized roller bandages. You should also have several sterile gauze pads as well as an assortment of adhesive band aids.

These items will insure that you will be able to treat cuts and scrapes and be able to stem bleeding. You will also need to obtain cloth tape or a similar item to hold bandages in place.

Pain Killers and Relievers

Under this classification fall many of the basic items that we use on a frequent basis. These include aspirin, ibuprofen and hydrocortisone. These are the best known and the most common vehicles for pain relief. Their inclusion in all emergency first aid kits is a must. Compresses need to be included as well. Be sure to have a couple of both varieties (hot and cold) on hand when putting together your emergency first aid kits.

Other Needs

Here are some other items that should definitely be included in emergency first aid kits. Though they are not used as often in our daily lives, they can play an important role in an emergency. They are a solar blanket to assist in keeping people warm, a breathing barrier which allows the user to safely administer CPR and latex gloves to minimize the spread of disease.

As can be seen, with a little knowledge and some of the most basic supplies the creation of emergency supply kits can be easily accomplished and more importantly, extremely vital in case of an emergency.
