Have You Prepared Your Emergency Contact Information?

How to Manage Emergency Contact Information

If you have babysitters or other caregivers that come into your home, you need to make sure you have all emergency contact information posted in one convenient location. Having emergency contact information handy in the event of an emergency won’t only reduce the stress of the situation, but it can actually be lifesaving.

There Are Things They Need To Know

You might know what to do in an emergency and who to call, but will your babysitter know? Emergency contact information is very important and it should always be kept in an easily-accessible location. It is important to keep handy the number of your child’s pediatrician, the number of a trusted neighbor, a number where your babysitter can reach you (in addition to your cell phone number), and a number for (and directions to) the nearest hospital.

Emergency Contact Info Gets Automated

There is a computer program called Nanny-Notes which simplifies the process of organizing important information for your child’s babysitter. You can enter personal information and emergency contact information for up to twenty children. This program can be a valuable tool for your babysitter because all the information is contained in a computer file and you won’t have to worry about individual scribbled notes getting lost.

If you do use a computer program like Nanny-Notes, keep in mind that there are sometimes power failures and computer glitches, so it is always a good idea to keep a separate, printed copy of the information contained in the computer file and make sure your babysitter knows exactly where the information is kept.

Other Important Information

There are some important things that your babysitter will need to know in addition to emergency contact information. The babysitter will need to know whether or not your child takes any medication. If your babysitter needs to administer a dose, you need to clearly indicate how much and what medicine needs to be given. Also, clearly indicate the time the medication needs to be given. Also make sure you let your babysitter know if your child has any food allergies.

Being prepared for an emergency requires frequently updating the emergency contact information you keep so it can be easily retrieved in the event that it is needed. Just fifteen to twenty minutes of your time can give you peace of mind, give your babysitter the information he or she absolutely must have and give your child added protection in case of an emergency.
