Don’t Forget Your Automobile Emergency Kit!

What an automobile emergency kit is and what it should contain.

Why do you need an automobile emergency kit? After all, you’ve got your emergency kit at home tucked away and you think you’re prepared for anything. But what if disaster doesn’t strike while you’re at home? What if it strikes when you’re in the car? That’s why you need an automobile emergency kit.

I’m Ryan Edgerton and I’m going to tell you what an automobile emergency kit is and what you need to have in it in order to really be prepared for anything.

So What’s An Automobile Emergency Kit?

An automobile emergency kit is similar to the emergency kit that you have packed at home (or should have packed at home), but it’s tailored to the needs you might face if you meet disaster in your car.

There are a few essential components that every automobile emergency kit should have and I’m going to review those for you know.

What’s It Made Of?

I wish I could say an automobile emergency kit is made of sugar and spice and all things nice, but the fact is an automobile emergency kit is made of the bare bones supplies that you need to survive.

A good automobile emergency kit will have a backpack with food and water for each family member, a non-electric can opener, a flashlight with extra batteries, a battery-operated radio with extra batteries, a compass, a tow rope, jumper cables, a first aid kit, a solar blanket, a Swiss army knife, and a flat tire fixer.

If you have limited storage space in your car and you think that food and water would be too hard to store, you can visit an army surplus store and buy condensed meals that take little room to store. You can also buy bags of water that may be easier to store than the bottles. This will help ensure that you have what you need without sacrificing all of the space in your trunk.

By having these things prepared and ready in your automobile emergency kit, you’ll be well on your way to surviving disaster should it strike while you’re in your vehicle.
